The General Motors Spain plant in Figueruelas (Zaragoza) has started mass production of the Opel Mokka, until now manufactured exclusively in South Korea, with an act presided over by King Felipe VI, who toured the plant and has driven off the assembly line the first unit of this model. This year the Spanish plant is expected to manufacture around 20,000 units of this model, a figure that in 2015 could rise to 80,000.
Last year 168 million euros were invested in the plant and in 2014 it is planned to allocate around 210 million euros to the production of new models and updating the factory with new technologies that the King has been able to meet in person. This start of production shows the company's commitment to Figueruelas and the automobile industry in Spain, and demonstrates the competitiveness of our country to be a reference in the global market and create jobs.

The general director of GM Spain, Antonio Cobo, underlined during the opening ceremony: "In less than a year, we have successfully overcome the technical, logistical, economic and human challenges that arose and that have allowed us to celebrate the start of production of the Mokka, having met not only deadlines but also the strict quality standards that characterize Opel”.
For his part, the vice president of finance for the Opel Group, Michael Lohscheller, stressed that this start of production “is also a sign of the competitiveness of our operations in Spain. Zaragoza and Aragón can look to the future with confidence. This is the second model that we have put into production at this plant so far this year and it will not be the last."
The Zaragoza plant represents 30.8% of vehicle manufacturing, 42% of components and around 20% of the General Motors Europe manufacturing workforce. In Spain, the company has almost 6,000 employees.
