More than 1.99 million flights were managed in Spanish airspace in 2022, which represents a record figure and a growth of 6.7% (126,000 more flights) compared to the previous year, according to data from the navigation manager air, Enaire.

Of these, more than 1.18 million have been international flights (+6.9%), 390,461 were national (+4.9%) and 412,132 correspond to overflights (+8.2%), those that have neither origin nor destination in any Spanish airport.

In a statement, the parent company of Aena highlights that Spain continues to grow "well above the European average", which stands at 4.1%. The months with the most managed flights were July and August, with more than 209,000 flights in each case due to the tourist boom.

Air traffic in our country has been chained for more than four years of uninterrupted growth, at a rate that has made it possible for Spain to overtake the United States and become the second world tourist power, with more than 82 million tourists last year, only behind France.

The number of managed flights grew in 2017 in all traffic control centers with Seville at the head of the increases (+9.2%, with 380,536 flights); Canary Islands (+8.2% and 331,980); Madrid (+7.7% and 1.08 million); Barcelona (+5.7% and 914,940) and Palma (+5.4% and 311,104).
