The big trends of this edition of the Mobile World Congress

Mobile

As was the case with the mythical 14 of Real Madrid, this edition of the Mobile World Congress can be summed up as follows: a promise of technologies, such as 5G, called to stand out but that, for now, only offer potential and attention that pushes companies and institutions to carry out experiments that generate headlines with the following formula: "(Name of a company) does the first (desired action) with 5G".

Guti's potential was part of a rhetoric that also served to cover his absences, which in this edition of Mobile have been notable both at the fair itself and in everything that surrounds it. Uber and Cabify cars have been missing (inside and out) contributing to 40-minute wait times for taxis.

Neither did the independentists appear on the scene - except for the timid presence at the gates of the fair of some young people handing out (without much success) yellow leaflets in English attributed to an international pseudo-organisation created ad hoc for the Procés trial - they remained seated in front of a screen giant in the center of Barcelona applauding Jordi Cuixart's answers as if they were tweeting smacks at the prosecution. Nor have they been seen by the large advertisements of companies such as Apple, Samsung, Facebook or Google or high-level foreign personalities capable of generating an iconic photo beyond the snapshot that captured Felipe VI's rictus while looking at Quim Torra during the opening dinner.

Also known for his fondness for vice, this edition of Mobile also casts the image of a young foreign woman with impossible heels entering a hotel with a man who is twice her age and quadruples her en masse. And it is that, according to local media, the demand for prostitution skyrockets during the week by 30% and businesses related to sex, such as the Sala Bagdag, come to offer six passes each night with a price of 90 euros plus a drink.

However, Guti was also known for his brilliance and flashes of quality, for those high heels that gave Zidane and Benzema goals, which invited viewers to dream, as today mobile phones with multiple screens make us dream of the future, the sharpness of their cameras and the future of technology in general.
